Like the car, this is my first robot. Have always been told never to do them because 'everyone does robots' but thought I would give it a go nonetheless.
Was probably one of the most challenging things to model.
Modeled in Maya, textured in Photoshop and rendered using HDRI and Mental Ray
On the contrary I think every should do a robot at some time in thier lives. Robots are among the most personal of characters, as they don't have to conform to anything but what we want them to. Each robot is an expression of the person and really shows personal style to the utmost. The complexity of a "realistic"-looking robot is really a stretch to just about anyone's abilities as an artist that few projects can compare to.
You particular robot evokes a personality all his own, simply by placement of various parts. His forward jutting head, and generall hulkiness give him a kind of lovable, if slightly dim-witted character that really pervades the whole construction. He's obviously not intended to deal with people directly, as some form of work type, but could easily end up in various hijinks regardless.
You are definately right there Tri. They are a true test both in the design and the creation, and personal growth too.
And of course you are right about the second. He was created to be the hulking and loveable but slightly simple type character. He is definately a worker robot, used in construction or shifting freight, but is coming to the end of his days. He is good at his job, but time and progress has finally caught up with him.
Hey Tri, maybe in the near future, at the moment I am a bit tied up with a few things, but thought I could build a few other characters and see how they turned out

In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
